Well, between this report of asbestos, this one of lead contamination, and the general references to lead-based paint for toys, here are a few ideas I have for when (and very importantly IF) I decide to have children:
1) They will play in boxes. And like it. Like any normal kid should.
2) They will eat dirt. Because ultimately, I'd rather them be curious and eat dirt over being curious and taking a chew on the asbestos tainted toys.
3) They will play outside. Mostly, because I - like my parents before me - plan on making sure they will never learn totally awesome Wii, Playstation, or X-box skills, or whatever their conception of "cool" video games becomes. However, I will qualify this statement. If I can still make an Original Mario Bros/Duck Hunt combo work, there might be a chance. Even if NES came out before I was born.
I realize that in doing this, they will rebel and direct their anger at this totally ridiculous treatment to me. But, what's the worst they can do? Turn against the neo-liberal hegemonic views of society and become some sort of people over profits activist-type, who really wants to still believe in the system, despite increasing cynicism against any and all organized political machinery.

I'm sure they will be fine :-)

P.S. No fucking barbie dolls either.
Would barbie's be okay if your sons played with them too, or is the ban because of the unrealistic expectations they create?
