This evening I was nominated as the Alberta NDP candidate in the constituency of Sherwood Park. Yes, I am running in the upcoming provincial election. Rumor has it the writ will drop sometime between the 4th and 14th of February. Perhaps a little late for a candidate to start campaigning, but you do what you can.
I am up against incumbent Iris Evans. Ms. Evans is the minister of Employment Industry and Immigration, (formerly Health and Wellness) and from what can be told from her record so far; not good at either of her jobs . Especially when told to deal with "the homelessness" issue, her disregard for legitimate complaints of industrial and professional workers, supporting the corporate threat to medicare, and her offices' equation of temporary foreign workers in Fort McMurray to traveling roadies and visiting professors (from an interview I did this past year). Yes, Ms. Evans and her government seem very "in touch" with the people of Alberta.
P.S. For all of those who hope to send their children to the University of Alberta in the next year, tuition will be going up by 4.6%, while residence costs go up by 8.75% for first year residences. Maybe not Ms. Evans' ministry, but shouldn't she be representing her constituents who may want to send their children to University? Just a thought...

Congrats and good luck
Congratulations. I hope you can wrangle an "I'm allowed to blog" pass from the NDP, because it's really informative and thoughtful around here (as in, more informative and thoughtful than the actual party pages). I think the party short-circuits their campaigns by not allowing some way for candidates to self-publish — Deron would have a good blog, I'm sure, if this weren't the case.
You're going to be a great canidate, and the group that was there seems really excited to be working with you.
On another note,I like the new look on here.
I think I have already "wrangled" said pass. Mostly because I'll be doing it anyway.
I like the new look more too. It's pretty.
Congrats. Kick some Tory butt!
Best of luck!
